The Akkan

Quick question:

Targeting Uplink - is that + to hit actually a straight damage buff or is there an actual accuracy factor in the game that I've missed?

That akkan ability is bugged...Only seems to increase range. One reason I don't build akkan...EVER.

There's an accuracy factor in the game. Just open up the gameplay.constants file and you'll see weapon vs armor type accuracy percentages.

And unless you can show numerical proof that the ability is somehow "bugged", please don't say it as a certainty - because as far as I can tell, it isn't :P

There is an accuracy factor - buffs to it will result as Chance to Hit: percentages in the infocard.

The ability is not bugged:

entityModifier
buffEntityModifierType "ChanceToHitAsDamageDealer"
value
Level:0 0.050000
Level:1 0.100000
Level:2 0.150000
entityModifier
buffEntityModifierType "WeaponRange"
value
Level:0 0.060000
Level:1 0.120000
Level:2 0.200000

Is there a difference between *damage* vs armour types and *accuracy* vs armour types?

Am I correct in assuming that the sustantive effect of the accuracy bonus is a net damage buff?

Well..yeah. But it would be a highly variable damage buff.

To me the best use for this is to have ships that aren't meant to hit strike craft have a chance to hit them, and usually if a capital ship can hit a strike craft it could kill it in one to 2 shots, where if not it might hit once out of 10 shots and give it plenty of time to regen.

Otherwise yeah, it's a damage buff.

Ability to hit strike craft is hardcoded, so that won't work. However, if you can get to a battle in an asteroid field where there's a penalty to hit (iirc) it can turn the tide against a superior foe.

accuracy only influence the chance of ships to hit capital ships, fighters and bombers and is set as 100% to capital ships.

The buff helps fighters and flaks attack bombers/fighters or helps in the case of a few select things in the game which reduce the accuracy of a fleet against capitals/fighters/bombers.

It doesnt make non anti-strike craft able to attack strikecraft, they cannot fire at all at strike-craft.

Thanks very much, that's the answer I wanted.

The Akkan's accuracy buff is useful to only two units... fighters and flak but for those two units it is great as it allows you to really hurt enemy strike craft with either less fighters/flak or hurt them a lot worse before they can get a second volley off. The range bonus is best with LRMs but is a good buff for all ships.
