The Mini Dump Needs To Go Up In Flames!

The Mini Dump Needs To Go Up In Flames!

Creative Mini Dump Message

While we're stressing about one point oh-three/The mini dump is destroying our games/We get so far as four and a half hours/Instead of playing Sins we all are sour/The mini dump needs to go up in flames! ...If you have reached this point and have not realized that this is written in Iambic pentameter well, there you go. Due to the fact we're unable to play the game due to mini dumps again and again we decided to devote our time in which could be playing to this pointless poem. So instead of whining about balance perhaps making the very game itself finishable and playable we should instead focus our attention on the mini dump.

The complete reproduction of reply #26 :

what a joke thread......i'm staying outa this 1  :p

Well ... you obviously didn't :

you came in, and you posted to belittle the thread.

If it is a « joke thread », explain to us why serious people like kryo (of Stardock), Blair Fraser (of Ironclad), and the_Monk(of network-wizardry fame) have taken the time & trouble to post within the thread !?!

Since a forum Moderator has very recently warned that posts, from now on, could be deleted if they were blatant, useless trolling, I would put up that post #26 as a prime example of sterile pollution.

The Moderator was targeting users who create too unfairly negative threads & posts ... but there are others who enjoy to do quick hit-and-runs in a thread to belittle its main topic.

Since reply #26 ends with an ambiguous smiley, I will post one myself :

:CONGRAT:

I would like to take this opportunity to make it clear that my previous post was written while sipping a cup of sarcasm. Thank you for failing your Detect Sarcasm rolls.

Sorry Regicide, I've just heard that (I'm a lawyer so I know what I'm talking about) line so many times at work it triggers an auto response in me :) Please accept my sorries and veritudes of I didn't means its.

That is why it is so important that people send us the minidumps (only if they are from the latest version of Sins) so that we can see what state caused the crash.

I sent you a game from 1.02, including all save files and dxdiag as suggested, before 1.03 came out, are you saying that it will not be looked at since it is not the latest version, or have I completely misunderstood what you have said?

This post is actually quite serious. Our LAN, with all due respect to the online community, is over the top and we're even having difficulties with crashing that virtually makes the game unplayable. Add this to the fact every patch invalidates the previous save files and we have a $40 game that is quite amazing on paper, but has not successfully been inplemented into a real situation. Here's my LAN at a glance:

1) Intel Q6600 Quad @ 2.4Ghz
Nvidia 8800GTX 768MB
4GB 1033Mhz memory
Windows Vista Business

2) Intel Q6600 Quad @ 2.4Ghz
Nividia 8800GTS 512MB
3GB 1033Mhz memory
Windows Vista Home Premium

3) Core 2 Duo E6750
Nvidia 8800GT 512MB
2GB 800Mhz memory
Windows Vista Home Premium

4) Core 2 Duo E6750
Nvidia 8800GT 512MB
2GB 800Mhz memory
Windows Vista Home Premium

5) AMD Black Edition Duo @ 2.6Ghz
Nvidia 8600GT 256MB
2GB 800Mhz memory
Windows XP SP2

6) AMD Black Edition Duo @ 2.6Ghz
Nividia 8800GT
2GB 800Mhz memory
Windows Vista Home Premium

7) Intel Pentium D Duo @ 2.6Ghz
Nvidia 9600GT
2GB (4x512MB) memory
Windows Vista Home Premium

If you plan to tell me these computers cannot handle this game then we might as well be playing Crysis or CoD4 instead since we've actually had much more luck with that.

The point is, with such an over the top LAN we should not be having this much difficulty with a game that specifically advertises running great on mid range computers.

And yes, I sent my MiniDump files on March 14th and I've heard nothing since.

Are any of you running mods?

None.

Very disappointing. I too am running into the MiniDump 3-4 hours into the game. Does seem to only happen in multiplayer games. I am not running any mods. I thought maybe it was tied to the autosave - but after a few tests I think I can rule that out. I am running NVIDIA so maybe some of the comments about that driver being a problem could be fixed from that angle.

It would be nice to have a developer indicate their progress in tracking down this problem as the game is too good to let this continued.

If it isn't the latest version it is very difficult to track down the source of the bug from an older minidump problem so we would prefer only minidumps from the latest version. We also want to avoid putting too many resources into tracking down the source of the bug only to find out its something that's already fixed in the latest version.

It is impossible to solve the minidump problem altoghether because a minidump is just the generic representation of any number of different bugs and there will always be bugs in software. Please read reply #19 for a more detailed explanation.

The multiplayer crashes are caused by either modded data or the 1 of the 2 crashes I mentionned in reply #19. There isn't much more to say on the issue than I already said in reply 19. We are aware of the problem and working hard to solve the it and hope to have it fixed for v1.1.

Please continue to send your latest version minidumps as they will only help us track it down faster. We will be adding a detailed autoresponder shortly but if you don't get a response it just means its something we need to fix in a patch.

Locking thread and will unlock or start a new one when we track down the cause.
