Quitting/Surrending

Has this happened to you?

I don't know if people just don't understand what surrendering is, or if they spitefully refuse to do it, but I've never seen someone surrender.

I played a 3v3 today, Gateway. I got attacked on one of my colonies, and quickly brought my fleet back as I churned out more ships. After driving him away, and following him every step, he quit. Fine, he only had 3 planets, and I had business to attend elsewhere. Next, I put the killing blow on another guy after they finished off one of my teammates, who quit too, not surrendering. I asked him to surrender. Not quit. Surrender, twice. What does he do? Quit. I spend the next 30 minutes getting ready and then killing the remaining guy. I asked him to surrender....You guess it, he quit. Now, this leaves me with roughly 13 colonies that I needed to kill. Luckily, after my last teammate had retreated losing his homeworld, and everything else, he rebuilt and managed to help after he got his feet under him.

This is an unnecessary another 30 minutes that I need to waste. I love this game, but when this happens, it's just frustrating. Am I to assume that in the next patch, with the AI in multiplayer games improved, they'll surrender, saving me the time?

Also, if all members of a team quit, but another team still remains after 3 minutes, it should be a victory for the remaining team, I think.

heh I told a guy to surrender and he said "No I don't want the loss." And I said "But you did lose." He said "No I didn't." And then he quit.

Most people I meet online who preach "surrender if you lose" end up quitting themselves.

I surrender if I lose since I know other people would like the win, but for myself, I couldn't care less about stats. As soon as they quit, I just quit too.

If you REALLY want wins, you could simply make 1v1 games where you and the comp are on the same team. The instant the game loads, you get an immediate win.

Meh. It's not so much that, Jinx, as the common courtesy. It's annoying. And I never say Surrender unless it's pretty much guarenteed I'm going to win. If I have a decent sized fleet in your homeworld, which happens to have the only decent infrastructure of any of your 5 colonies...And you have no fleet anymore...Then it'd be nice for you to surrender. That's when I ask. It;d just be nice to be recognized for a well-deserved win, without the lame cleanup. Not win for winning's sake, but just being recognized when I do.

I never understood whats to problem of getting a "loss". Do they have such a poor self-confidence? Shure i don't need to watch my planets getting bombed if i have better things to to, but whats so difficult about surrendering?

Sadly, I think it's just mean sprited of most of them; they lost, and they want to annoy you as much as possible. I've written this in another link, but for me so far, 4 games, 3 of which my opponents just up and quit without a word. It's a pain in the rump to mop up, and REALLY anti-climatic to say the least. Any day now, I'm going to play a skilled player, get beat badly, and I prommise you, I'll be saying GG, thanks, and then I'm surrendering.

Which makes me wonder, is it me, or is there really no way to tell if someone quit? Cause out of all 3 players that quit, I had to watch the replay to see the exact time they DID quit. Where does it say or show they are no longer there???

We need something like in supreme commander. Your commander blows up like nuke when he dies. So instead of quitting most people try to do as much damage as possible before they kick the bucket(at least in a teamgame). Maybe they should make the flagship like a nuke too. Would be much more fun to blow it up somewhere then :D

People quiting like that is sad. I've beleived for a long time that gamers generally don't play with respect and dignity. It's a shame.

"It is a long-standing tradition in fencing that the person who "receives a touch from" (is theoretically wounded by) the adversary, must acknowledge it openly. Perhaps you're familiar with the call, "Touché!" which means "I have been touched!" A fencer never claims a touch against his/her opponent—or even inquires about one that has not been freely acknowledged. But if the adversary concedes a touch you do not believe was valid, you must decline credit for it by replying "Pas de touche," meaning "Not a touch." Even though there are as many as five officials presiding over a fencing contest, fencers are still honour-bound to acknowledge all hits they receive. This, I believe, makes fencing quite unique in two ways, one very intriguing and the other very important. The intriguing thing is that if fencing is only a "sport" (as some might insist) then it is the only one in which your opponent determines your score for you. The important thing, however, is this: fencers acquire the habit of being honest, gracious and, above all, self-responsible. The presence of an official does not relieve the fencer of his/her obligation of honour. A fencer considers it elementary, in fact, that nothing and no one can absolve you from personal responsibility for your own actions." - Adam Adrian Crown, Maître d'Armes
