Installation of Galciv on two different PCs

Hi,

Anyone know if you can install your single copy of galciv on two different PCs and still function properly with downloads, Metaverse, and such. Not sure if I am saying this right. But what I would like to do is have the game on two different PCs so I can play depending on which location I am at. Was also thinking it would be a means to keep a version of the game you enjoy currently while keeping current updates on the other. :)

Yep... I've got it installed both on my laptop and my home machine... Works like a charm (including stardock and updates).

I wondered about this for my work machine, so I checked the license:

"2. Permitted Uses. You are granted the following right to the Software :
(a) Right to Install and Use. You may install and use the Software on a single computer. If you wish to use the Software on more than one computer, please contact the Company for information concerning an upgraded license allowing use of the Software with additional computers."

Would seem to be the relevant section. I don't know how much Stardock and Strategy First actually care about this (the fact StarDock central works fine would suggest not much).

Its probably a good job, I'd never get any work done if I installed it at work.

Hmm... Would be intresting to get the "official" side of this thing... I for one would like to be able to play it on multiple machines, because I'm no very often home and can't play on my home machine and play on my laptop. But when I'm home I like to play on a nice big screen... So far I have done this. I wonder what's stardocks' official opinion..

Well, since I've described problems that came about from installing it on my desktop after I upgraded to Drengin.net (it was already on my laptop) and Brad himself responded with a helpful post, I don't think the legalese mumbo jumbo is their real position.

The license is Strategy First's standard one.

That said, it's always been our position that this is your copy of the game/app. There's no copy protection to preclude you from doing desktop and laptop or home and work installs.

Which is just one more reason why you've engendered more customer loyalty with this game than any company I've seen in a long time.

Yes... You're right. I must say that this is the only game I've had no second thoughts of buying it. Even though after customs this pretty much became the most expensive game I've ever bought.. But I don't regret at all. Best money I've ever spent. If every game company had support and staff like stardock, earth would be a much happier place to live in :)

Frogboy himself has participated in threads where people discussed how to get GalCiv running on a second PC. I would say he's fine with it. :)

From a moral perspective, if you're the only one who uses both the desktop and the laptop. you should be allowed to install software on both computers.

It's like going to a bookstore and you have to buy TWO copies of a book because sometimes you read at home, and sometimes you read on the subway going to work.

But the official Microsoft position is that each computer has to have its own copy of Office XP... oops, that's a different company.
