GALCIV: First Official Update Released!

GALCIV: First Official Update Released!

The first update (or "patch" as people tend to call these things in the game industry) to Galactic Civilizations is now available.

Whether you purchased the game at retail or directly, just download Stardock Central from the downloads section and you should be able to see 1.01A.

Changes:
+ Some random events come later in the game.
+ Technology Trade United Planets issue nerfed
+ AI considers technology trade values more at lower intelligence levels
+ Crash bug in diplomacy screen hopefully fixed
+ Terraformer can be built
+ SDNet.lib updated for those who have had trouble submitting scores. Make sure you register with the metaverse.
+ Duplicate building of wonders / trade goods fixed
+ Added 2 new random events
+ Anti-Cheat methods beefed up
+ Metaverse submits difficulty level

There will be another update later in the week so unless any of these things look compellign to you, don't feel obligated to get it.

Though based on the posts, some of the changes to random events and the trade all tech UP issue will probably be good news to some.

ok, downloaded the 85MB file...it said that it was installed....the version (in SDC) shows 1.01a

BUT, when i go to the exe file in the GalCiv folder, it only shows 1.0.0.1

Is this what everyone is saying is wrong?
Yes i see the update as 1.01a.030.
The download is 84.5 mb.
It was 84.50 mb to download when i had version 1.01.029 as installed, befor i reinstalled sdc.
it still shows 84.50 mb to download after reinstalling sdc, but only shows version 0.9.033 as being installed.

When i first saw the update earlier today i downloaded the entire 84.5 mb, thinking it was a big update. when i ran it then the multimedia did not work at that time. So should i complete;y uninstall and then reinstall galciv again like i did when offically first came out? Also, if i do this, how abouts do i go to delete archived files, so that i have a clean slate to archive it when i finish reinstalliing?

Ok I just figured out why I wasnt seeing it..... this should be reason for everyone.....

I had not yet put my registration number in on my Galactic Civilizations I guess on the Stardock program.

Right click on the Dregin.net teb and choose edit account and make sure you have "Galactic Civilizations" selected on the pulldown and put your serial number in.

I feel like and idiot. I think this happen somehow because I have download the bonus pack outside of Stardock and that somehow wiped the previous settings or something.

I would just hold off until tomorrow. If you don't see it, just wait, they'll fix it tomorrow.

Fifth does SDCentral think your game is installed at all? I ran into a problem like that when I first was downloading it. An install like the bonus pack or something had failed and messed up my registry settings so it didn't think it was installed.

Does it see your game as being installed?

On a side note.... the patch was 1.03mb for me. And seems to have installed fine.

Doh! I guess when I re-installed SDCentral it cleared my serial. NOW I see the update.

I feel dumb. Heh.

Just double check what I posted above guys for those of you who dont see the patch.
Hehe, yeah Exodious same here. If you installed the bonus pak outside of Stardock or re-installed it or whatever then you have to check and make sure if you need to register again.

Or else you wont see anything. If you dont see for instance the 3 shareware games below the galactic civ stuff this is whats happening to you.

Also, one other thing, you should't have to install 80+ megs. The patch is 1 meg. So again, I would just wait till tomorrow. Hopefully they can fix both.

Before Frogboy asked me to try reinstalling SDC, Galciv version shown was 1.01.029 as installed.
After uninstalling and then reinstalling SDC, Galciv version shown is now 0.9.033 as installed.
Going into Galciv files, the version shown there is 1.0.0.1

Well, my game is patched to the new version now. I re-registered (again) in the metaverse and tried to submit my last game.. still no luck in that department.

Hey Frogboy,
Would you like me to try to completely uninstall galciv and sdc, and try redownloading the entire thing again to see if it works? If i do do this, were are the archive files for me to delete so I can freshly re-archive it after i reinstall everything? It shouldn't take me more than 40-45 minutes to redownload everthing, if your severs are not busy.

Well something changed with regards to how the AIs trade and value technology. Prior to patch, playing on sub-normal and normal, it was easy to trade techs with AIs. Now, its very difficult to the point of not being a good idea. Tech for tech trades they like 3 for 1, prior to patch it was 2 for 1 worst case. Tech for cash, they will not give me even half as much as they were giving out prior to this patch.

Ok, the fix suggested above worked.

IF:

1) You have a retail version of the game.

2) You downloaded the bonuspack outside of SDC.

3) You must enter the serial number as suggested above.

4) It will ask you to download a 85 MB file.

OK, uninstalled, reinstalled GalCiv....went to SDC, shows my version (GalCiv) is 1.0.00

It shows a new version 1.0.01a (i think, something like that)...

I click update, it starts to download a file that is just a bit over 3 MB....it says that it is updated....

it still shows that I am not current on the multimedia or the bonus pack....

i have the retail version...

I too did not see the update, but I did those small updates that were posted earlier. Could that be the reason it did not work?

I uninstalled everything (retail CD) and reinstalled it all. Now it see's everything and upgraded everything.

My download speed through SDCentral is still atrocious, but I can see the update no problem. As long as you keep these updates small in file size I shouldn't have any problems. :)

Thanks again for the awesome work Frogboy, et al.

What the heck is Stardock Central?
how do you know exactly what version you have?

On SDC, it says i am fully updated....but the .exe says it is only 1.0.0.1

I had a lot of problems seeing updates and such. I then noticed that my email address that was registered to in the email I got was the shipping email address. So if you ordered online and entered two email addresses, one for billing and another for shipping, be sure that when you right click on the drengin.net tab and edit accout that the galactic civilizations account shows your shipping email address rather than the billing address. Once I updated this and hit register, I could see the updates.

Hey all,

Quick question, I see the update but i have been playing a gigantic galaxy all weekend and am just starting to flex my civ's might... worried the patch might mess with the saved game? Any one know if I need to finish out before applying it?

Thanks,

Koof
