is divorce hereditary ?

are children of divorced parents more likely to go the same way ?

*Number of people in my immediate family: 4

*Number of current marriages in my immediate family: 4

*Percentage of my immediate family who are either themselves divorced, or are married to a previously divorced partner: 100%

*Total number of (past and present) marriages between the members of the 4 current couples: 16

*Average length of these marriages: 6.5 years

*Percentage of these divorces caused by infidelity/new love interest: 100%

*Percentage of these divorces initiated by my blood relatives: 80%

*Statistical chance my husband and I have of staying married: 10%

*Why this doesn't matter: it's been 7.5 years for us, and love, so far, is still conquering all.

My God! I hadn't the slightest idea that the Aussies too were going the way of their American cousins.

I don't think it's hereditary. Divorce doesn't only effect the couple, it has an impact on the rest of the family, especially children of the family. They see the things they don't want to do, and I'm sure none of them would go through that pain again if they can manage it. I am glad you and your hubby are proving this statistic wrong, love will get you through

Percentage of my wife's and my parents that have been divorced: 100%

Percentage of my wife's and my parents that have been divorced at least twice: 75%

Percentage of my siblings that have married, that have been divorced: 100%

My wife and I have been married 9.5 years, both of us never before, so like you said, it doesn't matter.

The thing that gets me is when people say "50% of marriages end in divorce", my response is "no, you have it wrong. 50% of marriages succeed. I don't want to look at the ones that ended in divorce, I want to look at the ones that succeed. There's a REASON why they succeed".

Hooray for love!! It's not something that can be easily defined by words, let alone numbers, that's for sure... especially stats.

Congrats on keeping the love boat floating!

Of all your stats quoted above, this is the important one and the only one that has any bearing. All I can say is -- DAMN RIGHT LOVE CONQUERS ALL!!!
