Universalist Party: What's up with their luck bonus

OK, I'm a bit confused on the Universalist's Luck ability (+25). It costs an ability point to get just +1 in the general racial abilities, so how is it that they can get +25?

The other political parties have totals of abilities that fall within 3-5 points (which, unless I'm missing something about other effects from political parties beyond stat bonuses is a whole other issue in terms of balance). Yet, their bonus is already at 3 pts value for the econ, def, & pop bonus, and then +25 luck is tacked onto that. Is one of these values being misrepresented in the game?

Dang no edit feature: Is one of these (the generic racial versus Universalist) values being misrepresented in the game?

If u select Universalist and then the luck ability, what is represented in the stats screen ingame ??

Luck +26%, + 2% or something else ??

Luck +26% is what you see when you choose both.

Hmmm... so one of these is either hideously overcosted or undercosted, that or luck isn't that powerful of an ability so it makes no difference.

Can we get some official input here? :)

According to a post by Frogboy himself (http://www.google.com/groups?q=luck+author:brad+author:wardell&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&selm=E4mcncAyI5c2OTyjXTWcpg%40comcast.com&rnum=2)

Luck is actually very cool. It's modeled after the book a Spell for
Chameleon where just "good things" happen to you when you need them. The
background AI of the game basically just occasioanlly hands you things.

Boy, the Drengin are really starting to come after me. What? A random space
storm just destroyed their ships in my sector? What? The Drengin fleet just
ran into space monstrs going only after them? I just found a crystal that
makes my people happier? Etc.

It's all in random events but it's not that random. Over the coming months
I'd like to see this developed further.

No word on what level is needed to get really lucky. ;)

from what i hear:

your advantage is higher than normal (i don't know by how much)

you have better chance of getting GOOD events, and less chances of getting BAD ones

I've understood what it supposedly does (which is why I decided to try the Uni's for my first 1.03 game). That does little to reduce my confusion about why is +25 with the Universalists only a value of 1, maybe 2 points, if the faction is "balanced" against the others, but it's only +1 for 1 point for everybody else. Something is funky somewhere.

Hmmm, if +1% is the proper balanced amount, then +25% for the universalists would be like when they nerfed the PQ +10% ability, they accidently made PQ +5% add 5 _levels_ instead of 5% :)

Maybe the skill is supposed to add 1.0 (ie 100%) rather than 1% and someone typoed?

I would say if the skill is 1, a bonus of 25% would lead to 1,25 x the chance something nasty happens to you. A normal dice roll would lead to a 50-50 chance that the nasty indeed happens. 25% could also mean 1 out of 4 you are lucky. If you have the skill, you would be 50% of the time lucky (you get a 1 in stead of always a zero when the dice rolls). So skill + 25% bonus would mean 3 out of 4 you are lucky. And so on. But I could also be completely wrong LOL

Still 1 for the one and 25 for the other seems so ... strange?

Ok, Brad responded over in CSIPGS about this: the generic racial ability is supposed to also be +25 - yet another mucked stat in the game.

Because he just found out about it today as far as I know. It's probably relatively simple to fix so it will show up in one of the incremental builds later this week.
