AI researching techs without having the required techs??

In my current game, version 1.02.49, medium galaxy, all bright AIs, the Drengin AI got hyper warp tech without the prerequisite tech, antimatter, and tri-something alloy without the prerequisite tech, high density metals. No one including me but the dregins had those mentioned techs and as far I know I am in contact with every races there are in the galaxy. This is not the first time this kind of thing happened to me. In another game I played, the dregins got the space miltarization tech without battle armor. How is this so?? Is there an event where you can get free techs? Or is this a bug?

There is prolly some minor race somewhere that you haven't come in contact with.

Hyper warp is a common creative discovery event. I've gotten it plenty, and I've seen the AI get it occasionally (strangely enough, almost always the Dregs).

You can increase your chance of such wild break throughs by taking 'Creative' as a trait. It doesn't really seem to make a difference from what I've seen, but hey, they don't want a serious breakthrough happening constantly.

Cyzada: I do believe I am in contact with every races including the two minor races, the Alexians and the Carnoids. I have explored the entire galaxy already and it's relatively early in the game and I have not received any messages about new minor races appearing and all planets seem to be accounted for on the map. If a new minor race appears, I should be able to see their inhabited planet on the map. I don't think that's the reason.

Star Pilot: So you're saying there's a 'creative discovery' event that give you free hyper warp tech? What about the other techs, is it possible to get them free through this type of event?

While Drengins get Hyperwarp all the time, the Torians often end up with Virus Elimination too. It's funny how the alignment requirements were ever considered. Hyperwarp is supposed to be a "good" tech after all.

I have just encountered another tech-skipping situation in a new game I am playing together with a friend. This time the Drengin AI has 1D-Phasing tech without the prerequiste tech, Instant Communication. This is at sub normal level, small galaxy, and only three races left, me, the Arceans, and the Dregins and no minor races. No one has the Instant Communication tech. I can't get it for a trade from anyone and I have not researched it yet. This is puzzling me! I have two save games that show the possible bugs.

2 things its either extortion or you have tech and forgot ya do and if neither is case then obviously its a bug

DeafHawk, I've indeed also gotten other techs. It just seems like hyperwarp is the most common. Then hypersensors.

Creativity is a trait enhances a race's chance for an instant, 'wild' new breakthrough. But even without Creativity trait, you (and the AI) still have a chance for that wild new breakthrough.

Yeah its puzzling how it can happen, especially when the Drengins get Battleships tech when they're still a few pre-reqs away. Makes the war interesting at least :)

As someone fairly new to the game...do the other send spies infiltrate each other's empires? If so, then perhpas the techs are stolen.
