Musings upon a Terror Star

My strategy was to be a very goodie goodie empire and pour all my tech into developing the Terror Star and then sending it out to dominate the galaxy.
I was lucky to have my empire off to the edge of the board where I was pretty much left alone. I decided to give into all threats so I could keep on researching the Terror Star.
This research was interrupted once by two empires declaring war against me at the same time. Luckily I was able to hold them both off, make peace and go back to developing the Terror Star.
Finally, I produced one and sent it to the empire next door (and not to borrow a cup of sugar!)
I noticed that the Terror Star loses hit points as it travels! I sent it to a planet and blasted it away, thinking to strike fear into the Altarian Empire. They sent a large ship over and popped my little Terror Star like a balloon.
So, building a Terror Star is really a crown jewel in an overall armada of strong ships and not really a tech to research by itself in an attempt to dominate the galaxy.

Like Wiley Coyote, back to the strategy drawing board.

A good thing to do if you're planning on blowing up planets is give your terror star an escort fleet. Just a few extra ships with it can help you destroy one or two more stars.

And install as many defense modules as you can. Those will help greatly.

I simply jack up the defense as far as I can take it on a Terror Star. It is also not a bad idea to invest in a couple of offensive mods, especially repair. The ships in your escort fleet (dreads do well) will benefit greatly.

My only issue with Terror Star use comes from the fact that other civs will not yield to it in a manner befitting something that can blow away a star system! I should be able to negotiate a peace that includes a star system or two, but I never seem to get what I want.

Hey guys....

I have a Terror Star and I have developed the technology that allowes me to destroy planets. And I believe it said when I was making my Terror Star I had a Star Implosion Cannon on it somewhere... How do I make use of this? Do I have to be an "Evil" Civilization to do it?

I have flown up to an planetless system to test my destructive force, but nothing would let me do it. I have also tried with a system with planets... Still nothing. Am I missing something? Can anyone point me in the right direction and show me how I can commit mass Murder with my Terror Star?

So, anyway, just as I was finishing up tonight's game, I declared war on the Arceans (only surviving race when I decided to go for Beyond Human) and spent the final six months blowing their ships up.

ANYway, they built one terror star and nearly built another before I launched a-m missiles and battlehammers to stop the constructors and blow up all of their random little starbases that had sprouted up like bloody mushrooms.

The new patch has apparently made a big difference to how the AI uses starbases. A good difference. :)
