Did the tech trade fix neuter diplomacy at higher levels?

I hate to say it, but I feel that the devs neutered diplomacy at the bright/intelligent level.

Yes, it was wrong to be able to fuel your entire economy from the coffers of your enemy. However, now we can't even trade techs on a somewhat equal level. It's gotten to the point where I've STOPPED trading techs. Why should I bother if they don't want what I have to offer?

What I can't figure out is why an AI will offer to trade single techs with you, but when you propose the same offer, they refuse. Even when you have a higher diplomacy value, they still refuse.

And to try and get trade goods from another race? Forget it! You have to be lightyears ahead of them to fanagle some frictionless clothing.

Can a change be made so that the AI actually considers tech-for-tech trades?

My experience is that the AIs will trade, but not on anything like a value for value basis -- even with diplomacy advantage. Is that what you are encountering too? Or are you getting a complete refusal to trade?

I noticed the same thing. (all AIs at bright -- I think). The drengin offered to trade techs with me. I had some hard time trading with the AI before in the game, so I rejected his offer to test. I then offered the same tech he wanted (in exchange for the tech he offered). He refused :( .
I only trade now with a civ I want to help, since I get robbed everytime I want the offer to be accepted (because I have to give so many more things than "usual"). On the other hand, maybe my diplomats were just stupid...

Ah .. well, the thing is, if you pay 3 times what a tech is worth, then sell it at value to five other civs, then you STILL make a bundle... if you could trade for even close to nominal values, you would be so stinking rich you would think you were playing 1.01 ...

Playing the latest version at Intelligent level and I'm still able to trade for HUGE profits. It's a matter of relationship, the AI's need, and your diplo ability. So far it's still a profitable way to go.
