AP first impressions

Not sure if this topic has been taken up in the empire forums, but I'm surprised there haven't been some reviews here in the general forums of Altarian Prophecy (aside from bug lists). Any first impressions, anyone?

Well, it is really fun having 2 more races. I love diplomacy and now there is that much more!

I play with the following alignments:

Korx? oops I forgot the name hehhe- Pure Evil
Dregin- Chaotic Evil
Yor- Chaotic Evil
Arcaen- Neutral
Drath- Chaotic good
Torian- Chaotic Good
Altarian- Pure Good

I haven't played any campaigns yet. So far so good..still in my first game....

Mine are similiar:

Korx - Chaotic Evil
Dregin- Pure Evil
Yor- Chaotic Evil
Arcean- Neutral
Drath- Chaotic good
Torian- Chaotic Good
Altarian- Pure Good

I have finished the campaign once but prefer playing random maps.

I always set all the AI's to Neutral :)

But there is a reason behind that!!! :D

I submitted 2 games to the metaverse today. Both were played under identical settings. The difficulty level of the first is recorded in the metaverse as "suicidal", while the second was recorded as "masochistic". Both were recorded as AP release level 1.50.

What's up with that? I had been under the impression that the "suicidal" level was removed during the AP beta. Why would 2 games played with the same level of code and the same starting conditions (same 7 opponents, all incredible), show different difficulty levels?

Hmmm....maybe the aliens are ending up with different number values for their incredibleness? I'll have to check the difficulty code.

Well, like Qwerk said, I can't give you first impressions anymore.

Some recent impressions:

The two extra majors increases the need for diplomacy especially in the early game at higher difficulties.

Trading techs has become more beneficial with the increase in trading partners.

The new ships have some interesting characteristics like ability to heal other ships, etc

The AI seems to be much better in AP.

The campaign is very interesting because it requires one to use different strategies to complete individual scenarios.

The custom maps provided are balanced but IMHO rather bland. They need some more stars with lower PQ planets.

I'ved tried the editors but I'm not really into map making, etc.

The game itself is remarkably stable on my computer. CTDs are few and far between.

I would advise that after playing a handful of games of AP to start adding a couple of the library certified mods every few games or so for variety.

The biggest asset of AP is the continuous evolution of the game through the updates.
