The game can be downloaded to more than one computer. I currently have it on my laptop and my home computer. I did not need to pay twice for the download. You can swap saved games between the different computers. So if you lost the program you could just reinstall Stardock and redownload. THe only thing you might lose is your saved games unless you back up your games on a jump drive or on a cd.

Stardock is ofcourse protected by your honor.

I hope that helps

if your computer gets wiped just download it again. stardock unlike the other game companies allows you to download however often you want.

I dont think thats quite true, I think they have a limit, but its a relatively large number. if you do hit that limit just E-mail them saying "open up the limit again, pls"

ok so like do u need to provide a pass word or something giving them record of your purchase. the reason im asking is i do mandatory wipes every 6 mounths and anything valuable i back up. this helps out with my preformace but it is of course annoying for downloads.

oh and what about total gaming ive never used them before do they follow the same polocy?

AFAIK anything you get off SDC follows that policy.

and i think the max is five, but you cant have a program running on two comps at the same time

exactly , else one person could just buy the game and share it with everyone...

well... i actually did share galciv with somebody once... but that was only to convince him to buy it...

The rules for GalCiv were amazingly permissive. You could install it to however many of "your" computers that you wanted. Technically, you shouldn't let friends and family play but they didn't really care about that (especially since that usually ended up netting them more sales).

And sense your purchase is "logged" to your stardock account, you can re-download it so long as you still know your name/password, or at least have access to the associated e-mail account.

Also, please note that you can choose the "download+cd" option (if you go through SDC instead of total gaming tokens) and end up with both the hard copy CD for backup, and the game D/L'd to your HD. My original GalCiv2 box is still sitting there, untouched.

ooooooooooooooo, that brings up another Question,
will sins have a collectors edition or just be the normal game?

We haven't decided yet. Should know more next month.

... If you do a collector's edition, what about those of us who already pre-ordered? Can we "upgrade" to it?

We'll see how things go. For GalCiv II we shipped all of our direct customers the CE box by default.

How about just allowing people to download an executable install file/package, instead, so they can burn their own backups? Pressing CDs and shipping them out seems like kind of an unnecessary expense, with the download option being available. Or maybe, Stardock should just have an option to create a backup copy from their interface. This would still allow for the option to enforce only one version running at a time.

Also, if a collector's edition does come out, it should be available to the those whose purchased the beta, either as a free upgrade to show appreciation for their early support of the game, or a VERY small upgrade fee.

We won't be providing standalone executable installers for download, as that's inviting piracy. Stardock Central allows you to archive your game which you can then burn onto a CD/DVD. You just need to put SDC on your other PCs to unarchive and reinstall.

...

so are you personnally in favour of the CE Yarlen?

i think that all beta testers should get the CE for helping the dev's

unless they only took part in a open beta(if any)...then screw 'em!

I am currently running the game on two computers at this time and I am not having any problems. I transfer a saved game file between them.

then i guess it was shouldnt

I'm for Collectors' Editions if they would help to increase sales or get us into additional retail channels.

No offense Yarlen, but I don't see how sending out actual CDs, with the full install on them, as opposed to making the install available for download in exe form, does anything to protect you from piracy. The cracked image of those CDs will make it out to the torrent groups just as quickly. Maybe you delay things by the time it takes to ship the CDs, but that's about it. That's just the harsh reality of any digital format these days, I'm afraid. Either way, most people who get a taste of the game, and enjoy it, will buy it to support the devs. At least, they should!

Because if he gives out the ability to make CD's people can sell the CD's and not even tell people it is a pirated copy
