Starbases

When I build bases on resources scattered around, I find it is difficult to keep track of them so I can upgrade them. Is there a way I am missing to keep track of starbases? Also, it would be nice to have an overlay that would show trade routes on the main screen to make it easier to build starbases along the route.

The mini-map will show your star bases as dark blue plus signs (+) if you are displaying ships. If you are playing one of the larger galaxy sizes you will have to zoom it a bit to see them.

The trade routes are displayed in the domestic "trade" window, but it is a point to point display, not one that shows what sectors a trade ship goes through (wouldn't it be nice if it did?).

Star bases built on resources are special. Do different indicators (such as the plus sign for star bases) have to be designed? Would it be possible to use a different symble for resources with and without star bases, such as an asterisk (*) or an at sign (@)?

I once suggested:

a) using the resource icon in the ship list to identify those special starbases. This icon could also show up on the mini-map, using the owner's colors.

b) adding number of mini-freighter routes to the sector influence pop-up. This would be very helpful where to add trade upgrades to starbases and build trade bases in deep space.

Umm...I could maybe rotate the triangle so that an upright triangle was a starbase on a resource and the sideways ones are the other ships. Or make regular starbases the upright triangle and make starbases on resources a cross.

Since I have to draw everything on the minimap except for the background and the explored sector fow, this would be easiest.

As for b, there's the special minimap on the tradescreen. I could make it also show starbases with trade station upgrades.

I forgot about indicating the resource on the ship list. I should also make it sort by starbase and not starbase. Bumping it up on my list.
