Broken Expectations and Bad Luck

We could spend,
all our time,
shattering expectations,
seven years bad luck,

and while I haven't lived all that long,
I just can't afford that,

it's costly errors in judgement,
the only things worth cashing in on,
at least these days,

with such high yields,
no one,
knows one,
who ever will bother to stop,
any longer,

come to think of it,
I'm not so sure,
if brakes were installed on this model,

I'll have to check the manual,
in the glove box,
that's never contained gloves,

just as I'm headed through the windshield,
arriving at my first stop,
the last yield,

shattering glass and expectations,
I would've hoped for better,
but I never dreamed of worse,

seven more years of ill will,
I will redeem,
for cheap prizes I'll lose on the way home,

not that my own satisfaction,
with my accomplishments,
were ever going to get me far,

but they still were mine,
and something I had,

coming up empty handed,
as long as you can keep your hands open,
something's bound to fall into them eventually.

I agree, it's just that this article and the accompanying pain kind of overwhelmed me for a second.
