Cost of Self-Worth

You should've seen his face when I told him the news,
as if he never knew...
it was coming,
he barely even knew what direction he was running,
but I can tell from his windburned cheeks,
that these misconceptions...
go on for weeks and weeks.

Giving birth to month after month,
which is about the time I dropped all my fronts,
you see,
I got so tired of trying,
to look like I'm so tired,
from trying so hard.

I slapped the aftershave right off his pretentious demeanor,
I took his ass straight to the cleaners,
but some stains are so hard to remove,
that it's difficult for everyone else not to see what you've been through.

Let's just say the laundromat is like my second home,
you can piece me back together from the remnants in the lint traps where mistaken identities were left to collect alone,
no wonder they have such a difficult time being,
the children seldom heard or seen,
but you can feel their presence whether you want to or not,
try as you might,
they won't stop.

That has never meant you're not better for trying,
to leave him behind,
one day you'll stop looking over your shoulder to find...

He's gone,
and all you'll have is that look on his face,
in a safe deposit box in your memory banks,
though never gaining interest or value,
your self-worth is priceless and miles deeper than shallow.

Damn, you're amazing.

You know, my current boyfriend is really into deaf poetry jam and all that underground poetry rap shit.

Now, every time I read you poetry (or Buddah's), I read it like a rapper with depth....lol.

This one fits nicely into the rythym.
