Research

I've been gone for about a week, but when I scanned the board, I didn't see if anyone has brought this up yet...

I remember, in 3Z I think, there was a discussion about the research being WAY too fast. I agree that research speed was out of control then, but I feel that it may have been overcompensated for. Starting the game, I've got +7 research bonus. I always start with communication theory. Now I understand that I've got only 1 planet to start off with, but it takes 12 turns to research it. Previously, if I'm remembering correctly (3Z or previous), it would take about 6, and as low as 4 if my people were really happy. Usually, my research plan is to research whatever takes the least time, I'll change it up when there's things I need. Now, it seems that there are no "quickies" anymore. When I go to the diplomacy screen, the research production of the other civs make me feel like a moron. I feel like the beta 3s before Z were more reasonable, the theories were easy and things like the battleship were not.

I remember Brad saying that research is cummulative, but it feels difficult to make any progress to accumulate anything. I may be wrong, or during my vacation I may have forgotten how to play the game :D , but, like I said, it seems to have been over-tweaked....
