Disconnects, Rejoin?

So I've only played two games online so far, but on the second one the game crashed. I tried to find a way to rejoin the game, but there didn't seem to be one. I searched the forums here and saw some threads about a rejoin being petitioned for back in June/July last year. However, I didn't see any recent threads about it, so wasn't sure if it had changed.

Is there a rejoin function?

If not, is there a reason why?

Is there a way to tell if only your game crashed or everyone's did?

If there is a rejoin feature and the whole match crashed then what happens?

I really hope there is a rejoin because for a long multiplayer game like SoaSE it's pretty essential really. I disconnected after about 30 minutes, but I can only imagine it happening three hours in, in the middle of a big team fight that would decide the game.

It is a really annoying thing that in bigger team fights some players crash as their 2GB sins game RAM limit is reached for a reason, and their computer can't handle that much lag, but there are random reasons for crashing, and ICO is not stable and everyone knows it. Repairing stability would be the solution I think, not a rejoin function (as there would be no reason to rejoin if the games would go smoothly).

If you want stable games, AVOID ICO AT ALL COSTS...LAN games and direct connect games rarely crash (unless it's an unstable mod) and so are much better if you are just playing with friends...

There is no possibility to rejoin, in theory you can host the multiplayer save and continue from that autosave if there is any and every player have it, but it is somewhat complicated, I always consider games gone when i crash.. If you drop out you will be substituted by an AI, and it would be impossible for you to connevt again, you will need to get all current data that is not really possible I think, sync again etc.

Yes, plenty of other online multiplayer games have rejoin functionality, which is why I was surprised it's not here when the games are much longer than the average multiplayer game.

Just look at ICO, they can't even make it stable not like giving this function to it, and this game is very singleplayer oriented as only a small percentage of players play it online (I get this info from other threads, maybe it is not true but its not my fault then). For 100 people maybe I can understand they are not breaking themselves to make online playing excellent, it's more important to get singleplayer section work well.

And again as in another thread I mentioned I am not familiar with most popular games and their online sections so I apologize for it again.. Maybe someone can tell me how it is possible to rejoin games after disconnection as at this moment I can't imagine this because i am not a computer scientist.

I think if this game had matchmaking and all the bells and whistles like rejoining, then people would stop saying it's mainly for single player. It's a wonderful online competitive game, just needs a more robust infrastructure in place to manage it.

If someone is really interested in this game he or she will eventually end up online regardless of how bad that system is (just look at me, bad ICO is nowjere to stop me from competitive online gaming). If he or she is not interested in that much even the best spectacular online system could never get that player to play online as he or she has no desire of it, as it is written somewhere else on another thread.

I disagree. I bet there's quite a lot of people that gave online a chance, got frustrated, and don't bother anymore. Don't take these sorts of things for granted. The online competitive community is quite demanding about having a good infrastructure in place. I've heard that online figures were quite high when Rebellion came out and then went drastically down. This is a sign of people trying to give it another chance and then giving up on it again.

Around the Steam Christmas sale there were sometimes as high as 1000 online at a time - 700-800 was pretty regular - now it's back down to 200-300.

MAYBE a better infrastructure or match making would have kept more people online but who knows, this game is not really a competition to huge online games in my opinion, as it needs experience and knowledge of strategies that are not like the ones in StarCraft and other games, this game is complex, hard to understand in a month, I needed like 6 months to be able to finally understand how game mechanics work and how to defeat normal AI (yes i learn really slow on my own, this game's tutorials are really bad, has no campaign!!!! where i could learn what is good for what, not building random ships and wondering what is wrong.., but i was young then).

No this multiplayer service sucks. There is no rejoin feature, and as for the reason why, Ironclad and Stardock don't care about their customers that play their game, they are really only interested in selling a crappy unbalanced game for single player oriented people to play and modders to fix.
