Problem with system designer

So I created a custom map that was basically a larger, 6-player version of Systems of War. I've played it, and I like what I got. There's just one improvement I wanted to make: wormholes. My idea was for each of the starting systems to have a single wormhole leading to the central system. The idea is to turn the central system into a perpetual warzone. However, I can't get the wormholes to go where I want them to. I ended up with a lot more wormholes than I wanted, and they led all over the place.

Is there a way to reliably make wormholes do what you want them to do?

OK. The custom map I created has seven systems - six small starter systems where the players start, and one big central one that starts out uninhabited. What I want to do is make it so that each of the starter systems has a single wormhole that leads to the central one. How do I do that?

Are you using the in game map designer or the galaxy forge? With the galaxy forge you make wormhole connections by making a normal phase lane between the wormholes, selecting it then hit the drop down box to change it to wormhole.

For the map designer, I don't use it very often but this is what I found in the stickied comprehensive guide to it.

Also note that wormholes always come in pairs, (having 2 as seen to the right, actually creates 4 wormholes) and while you can't specifically tell which wormholes to link where, by placing wormholes in two different star systems, you increase the chance  they will link across the star systems.

Basically the map designer is a good way to make an essentially customized random map. If you want to do something precise like specify exactly where wormhole connections go, use the galaxy forge.

Yes--GF is the only way to determine exactly where things will be.

It is a separate program made by Ironclad that allows you to make scenario maps, where you can place the exact location of planets and stuff to make a map exactly how you want it that is the same every time. This is the out of date tutorial but it maybe of some help. You can download it from the media section of the site but a link to that is in the tutorial.

You can make a map that has randomized links as well as randomized planet appearances, thus making it so that based on probabilities, your maps can change.

In addition to galaxy forge, you can rip off lines of text from the map designer files and insert them into your forge created maps using its ring setup to add even more variation.  I have a set of personal maps that mix both forge and designer and sometimes they get just downright funky.
