seriously stop posting in this part of the forums, we know you don't want to go on multiplayer, and we still don't care.

also, the new players only play compstomp and usually ruin the 5v5 when they actually play in it

FYI--it's the fast game speed, 5v5, stacked team, experienced multiple ally-fed team strategies that make it so hard for brand spanking new players to learn in. There is too much going on too fast in those games for them to keep up with. Smaller games would help newer players tremendously.

There seems to be a lot of new people around. I've been chatting with guys who only did it in single player and are now coming online all of the sudden. I don't know what prevented them from coming online before, but maybe Steam encourages people to try online multiplayer. I'm really surprised by just how dramatically the player counts have increased. I didn't expect it.

This is a rare opportunity for people who've never played against human opponents to log on and play similarly situated players. I hope it lasts.

Steam simply pulls numbers and a lot of people really use steam as their game base. If something comes up cheap on Steam, you usually get a slew of new players.

Now we need to get Slashdotted too.

Meh, I started playing mid-entrenchment, later than 95% of skilled and somehow I got it. Getting your ass kicked is best motivation. They just need to watch damn replays, analyse games and understand why they're failing. People who prefer easier games and are easily put off by defeat will turn to SC2/similar anyway, taught or not.

It could also be the fact that the two past updates focused a lot on ICO improvements as well.

I agree the "I want to win Noaaw!" player will bail easy but reading your suggestions--study replays, etc.--some of us grown-ups don't have that much free time that often.

I have just enough time to:

Play a single game title at a time.
Read and Post on one (or two) Forums consistently.
Play solo in small increments finishing a game over time.
Infrequently have more than an hour straight to play--online or otherwise.

Grandkids, children, spouses, homes, yards, pets and jobs take the rest. To play a marathon session my options are:

Go without sleep for a night.

My play time is after everyone else here is in bed and work is done.

I wasn't saying you need to close yourself in empty room and contemplate MP strategies for hours, it's more of simply putting some thought into playing and correcting yourself next time. Majority of people playing mainstream games just don't do that and blame balance, "that stupid game" or whatever.

Sins take time no matter how you play it. It's the reality of this game. That's main reason why only 10, maaaybe 20% of current new players will be still playing MP in 6 months. There's no way around it.

Yeah--I grew up with "thinking games" so Sins is pure fun for me. A lot of younger (console) players have never played that sort of thing before.

Sins is a different mindset than a first person shooter or video-puzzle quest. Best computer game ever made as far as actual strategy goes.

...and I actually do go without sleep now and then to squeeze it in. Curse you Sins, curse yoooou!

Oh hi there. I happen to be one of these new players who will be hopping onto ICO as soon as I get the free time. I've been tinkering around in singleplayer to get a feel for the game.

However I know the only way to really learn a game such as this is to hop onto multiplayer. I fully expect to initially be getting me arse handed to me in the most spectacular fashion...

If you (or anyone else) is having trouble starting in multiplayer like nearly everyone did, feel free to talk or PM me. While I'm not a pro yet, I have experience and can help significantly reduce your the initial learning curve, especially if you're experienced with RTS in the past. (It isn't fun to lose your first 10 online games in a row with no idea of how to improve)
