To Prolong Sins's Life Should We Ditch Diplomacy and Return to Entrenchment?

Now that the novelty of Diplomacy has worn off, player counts for both Regular/Entrenchment and Dipomacy seem to be decreasing.  I think that Diplomacy split an already small online community, making it hard to find and fill games in all three versions of the game.  Before Diplomacy was released it wasn't too hard to find 5v5's around Midnight EST.  Now it can be difficult to find 3v3's. This thread isn't about the merits or content of Diplomacy; I don't have a problem with it.  Rather, I want to start a conversation about whether or not, as a practical matter, the Sins online multiplayer community should ditch Diplomacy and instead focus on playing Entrenchment.

This game is currently dying.  There's no question about it, and it isn't a surprise.  (It was obvious that Sins's days were numbered based on the low player counts it had after its release.  I've never seen more than 280 people online, and that was around April or May 2008.)  The question is not whether the game of Sins will die, but rather whether we can prolong whatever life it has left.  Hence, the question:

To prolong Sins's life, should we ditch Diplomacy and return to Entrenchment?

Diplomacy somehow screwed up entrenchment too. 100% of the games ive played on entrenchment since diplomacy came out, every player has had lots of cpu lag, making it unplayalbe. And its cleary not a cpu problem cause it only lags online, even in 1v1s.  I think they got to remove Dipomacy from the game completey.

If that is the case, shouldn't we stick with Diplomacy? Why is it more practical to choose Entrenchment over Diplomacy if most of the new players, if they choose to play on ICO, would choose Diplomacy. I must be missing a point here .

I agree with lich1989 that is like saying "lets play Starcraft instead of Starcraft: Brood Wars just because the goddam server is too slow and it lags", well either start a petition to get Ironclad to upgrade their multiplayer servers to handle the data flow or get a better computer!

I hardly bare to play entrenchment these days with the new diplomacy stuff in there, and new condition to win. The only reason I would play entrenchment is only for the star trek mod

Diplomacy is Entrenchment + envoy bonuses + pacts so u can play it as entrenchment if u want to.

As for returning to Entrenchment just so we prolong life of entrenchment or MP qame if u want? No i don,t agree.

I admit sometimes but very rarely i do play entrenchment but only when i cannot find games on diplo server. That is one and only reason I go back

I just wanted to put the idea out there for discussion.  Lich does have a good point--new purchasers of the game will probably come on for Diplomacy.  I a way we really don't have a good solution to our problem.

Well, it would help if IronClad/Stardock gave Sins+Entrenchment owners a little push (discount) to get them to Diplomacy. I am thinking in the way of Weekend Buys, etc.

I could certainly be convinced ...

New players are coming to Diplomacy, not Entrenchment. And with the small community we have, we should cater to this by playing Diplomacy games. Unless of course, having to research feed is so horrible that it makes the game unplayable.

I see no reason to move back to Entrenchment. It's not like $10 is big price to pay, anyways.

If you only regard Sins as an online multiplayer game, or only being worth playing in online multiplayer, then yes, indeed you do have to think about it.  The issue is whether you should drop $10 more on a game with low online player counts.  Is it really a good investment to spend $10 on a dying game that (as a result of low online player counts) you might not be able to play?

Yes.  For $10 I can get a large pizza, which 1) doesn't require patches to be usable, and 2) is something that I'll never regret spending money on.

I vote 'Yes' to the OP proposal (obviously).  I also understand why anyone who paid for Diplo would want to keep playing it.  It's just Stardock that screwed online players with split servers and game-breaking bugs.

I've been content to step down and join vanilla Sins games lately, and it's clear that at least a few other players are hopping between servers and joining whatever games are available (usualy one or none).  Having everyone congregate in Entrenchment again wouldn't be a bad idea.

Evidence that the crowd follows the crowd.  Make a stand and step up to the best version of SoaSE out there DIPLOMACY!  If you want to learn the game, fine stay in Vanilla then on to Entrenchment.  When you're ready for the Utmost in strategic challenges the game has to offer, there is only one version - DIPLOMACY!

Any dumbass that has nothing better to do than bitch should just go ahead and uninstall the game altogether.
