Incidentally, this is not a complaint about my teammates quitting, rather the opponents quitting too early. In fact, this was easily one of the better games I've played in a couple of weeks. Clocking in at just over 2 hours, this 5v5 could have seen our opponents gaining the victory, instead they just decided to quit.
I don't want to name names, but I'll describe the scenario a bit (I watched the entire replay). The usual single star huge map, 5v5. I, as vasari, lucked out that there were 3 colonizable asteroids just 1-2 jumps away, and there were 3-4 neutrals with plenty of mines to capture and I held them the entire game.
So one of my roids became the border point of aggression to my first neighbor/opponent who was advent. He was sending in a disciple/illum spam at first but what I could not understand was why in the hell he was sending in droves of seekers when had 25-30 assailants and shortly thereafter began sending in the carriers. Watching the reply this guy I was fighting actually managed to hold his own pretty well but for some damn reason couldn't concentrate on where he wanted to focus his fleet. In fact he completely didn't have a clue because one of his teammates had to leave after 40 minutes but this guy kept thinking he was still in the game DESPITE the fact the computer kept sending up those stupid automated messages it does about every 5 minutes. So this guy is thinking his "teammate" needs help. During the game it became apparent to me that while I could concentrate force on him and probably kill him off with heavy losses, I decided to contain him by SB on the roid in my possession. I helped my teammate on the right kill the guy between us as fast as possible.
My teammates on the south part of the map were having a hell of a fight with one heavy aggressor who was spamming one planet, kill it, move to next, repeat. In addition he was receiving support from his teammate next to him who also fleeted up and during replay looked he was going to execute the same strategy. By this time the game was around 80 minutes old and I had just been able to research enforcers after encountering a lot of flak on my carriers. I'd been able to contain my opponent above so this left me with some peace for a while to fleet up.
So the really aggressive guy is hammering my teammate with whom we both killed our opponent. He's killed his planets one after the other. I send down a small fleet of enforcers to hold guard at the next planet in his sights...I then decide to try and SB it with our opponent 1 jump out thinking it was going to be a close one. Well that's when the game ended.
The replay shows that the heavy aggressor guy really was trying everything to kill us; the problem was his 2 teammates left (1 we killed, the other had to leave). The one next to him had a huge fleet but went on some suicide mission against a SB and combined fleets of my 2 teammates. The other opponent still had a good sized fleet (as in 50 defense vessels, 30-40 illums, etc.) yet this guy did not go on the offensive. In fact he kept asking the heavy aggressor guy if he was ready to call it gg. WTF?!
So in summary, 1 heavy aggressor guy who was fighting his heart out, had good support from his team initially but either they don't know how to strategize or are just stupid and in the end they lost. The lesson here to folks here (and you probably know if you're one of them) is: if you've still got a fleet like this guy did was nearly 100 decent frigates, AND you've got weak spots and places to maneuver to help your team, you are NOT defeated yet.
edit: sorry about wall of text, but I did type in paragraphs.
