So, I didn't see this written anywhere but I did see it mentioned in one post.
When you increase the ship speed in the game options, you are not increasing the attack speed or DPS of your ships. You are only affecting the movement speed.
I hope someone can correct me and tell me this is wrong because if it is right, then that ruins the entire balance of the game.
Increasing all options to fast, leaving the ships with the same damage capability, throws things off balance somewhat. It makes it easier to create ships than to destroy them. Of course, it is safe to argue that well, since you can create more ships, you can kill stuff faster because you have more ships.
Somehow, I doubt it is that simple. I think that defense is strengthened immensely by this fact, as production near home and the less travel time make it much better to turtle.
I went into a single player game and put normal speed and timed, with a stopwatch by hand, the time between shots from a scout frigate. 7.5ish seconds between shots.
Then, I started a new game with fast speed. 7.5ish seconds between shots.
Looking at the game.constants file under notepad, you see that the fast speed modifier affects maximum speed, acceleration, and deceleration.
I couldn't find any setting for increasing the game speed as a whole for multiplayer.
Does anyone know of a stat somewhere that would simulate the same effect as + and - keys in single player?
Changing the "game update rate"?
