Since you're new, don't worry about asking vets for some tips. Most of us are happy to indoctrinate the newer players and help them get better quicker. Don't be too intimidated by how your first few games go. You're going to see the pace is much much faster than single player and that you need to learn what ship types are good and which ones suck.
