Hello Community,
I have recently been reviewing 7 deadly sins and Emire at war (especially the french strategy mod in waiting for the release of Nomada's 2.2 allicance mod) and felt like writing a review of the two games. Many have acclaimed SINS as being the RTS of all time, and I felt commentatin on the subject was due since I have offered suggestions to both mods and wish well equal success to both modding teams (danman games and Nomada_Firefox Alliance 2.2).
First off, Danman's 2.0 release of 7DSins is extordinary, compared to the original release of SINS, it ads much more depth and diversity since it adds a number of new races who all play uniquely. The visuales are extrodianay, and the game play is very dynamic in strategy, since every different race plays unique to the others (especially love the rogues, feel they offer the greatest challence next to the altlantians). Overall, I give the mod a 7/10, I feel the unique game play and the number of choices amogst races is great for replayability.
I still feel that that Empire At War is a better game, and do not understand why so many feel that SINS is so much better. Sure, Vanilla EAW/FOC sucks, I admit that. But, the French Strategy Mod, and especially Nomada's Alliance Mod far outshine SINS in all repect IMHO.
From what I have noticed, playing both, playing 7 Deadly Sins is limited to playing the game only on High Graphics. This is OK in my opinion, but I have a high end computer, capable of playing most games on ultra settings, and when playing 7ds only on high, it annoys me that planets and bulidings look fuzzy on high, and when set to ultra, the mod crashes.
I am capable of playing the French Strategy Mod and Alliance 2.1 on Hign/Ultra graphics without any problems, and the visual detail is much more astounding. Also, the game play just feels more in depth playing EAW than playing SINS. Sure, SINS takes longer, and and all the upgrades and real time stragegy are exciting, but i just feel that playing EAM/FOC feels more real, especially since it includes building ground bases and forces that add a missing dynamic to the genre. After playing both, I still feel that that all the special abilities that are presented to each unique ship in EAM/FOC, and all different types of ships that are allowed to be constructed after capturing particular planets in each of the mods make EAW/FOC much more dynamic than 7DSins. With the addition of hero units and sub-hero units w/speciallized abilites, I feel that EAW/FOC is the winner of the ultimate 4X space genre game, since every galactic conquest of EAW/FOC requires not only fleet domination, but also space exploration to find new heroes, research to unlock new abilities, ground combat skills and fortification, and constant upgrades/fortifications to ensure proper defenses to succeede as well as constantly upgrading/building your spacestation/defenses to reach victory.
SINS is fun over all, but with the poor mondane diplomacy, and with the over all simplistic race of capital ship power vs technologial advancement, I still feel that certain mods for EAW/FOC provide a much more visually entertaining/more in depth strategy than SINS can ever provide.
I welcome all thoughts and challenges to this topic, for I am writing this in interest of what the rest of the community feels.
