Hi,
I mainly use SP to train me for MP, but whenever I start out in SP, I already have a mid-sized powerful fleet of ships including a colony ship already! This is unacceptable, but I don't see any option to turn them off, how do you do so?

In some maps, it's preset that each player starts with a certain number of units. If you chose that map in multiplayer, you'd get those units there, too. Pick a different map, and it will solve your problems.
Choose a random map of any size and you won't have this problem.
Play with 9 Hard AIs, all vs. you. It'll prepare you for the asinine backstabbing and immature bullshit that is multiplayer.
Use a different map. Lock the teams and put all the AI on the same team.
Here's a dumb idea - what about actually playing MP and doing a comp stomp with some human allies as a precursor to actual human vs human MP games???
