How big have you manage to mod your fleet up to?

I love sins but i always max out my fleet supply, i know there are mods to increase it, but how big have you managed to get it, without to much lag. I have a pretty powerful machine so was wondering just how far you could push it.

I have got up to a 1000 ships with a lot of lag, but I haven't got a powerful machine its low specification to today standards.

ASrock 4Core1600P35-Wifi,
Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 2.93GHz,
4GB OCZ PC2-6400 ATI CrossFire Edition,
Sapphire 2600XT 256MB GDDR4 PCI-E,
2 x 500GB Sansumg SATAII HDD 16MB Cache,
Os XP & Vista HP 32bit and 64bit.

I have read on the forum some people have had up to 5000 ships per player on a 8 player mission.

Mostly depends on how many AI you're playing with. 2 players with 2000 ships (not fleet points ) is quite different from 10 players with 2000 ships.
