I know theres like a gazilion mods, and maybe this has been done before but this mod just tweaks a few things in the game. I will list the tweaks and the reasons why, if you have any suggestions, ideas, comments let me know.
Making cap ships uses a little less cap, to promote building them more in mulitplayer.
Lowering the number of sqaudrons for TEC and Vasari support carrier but making their fighters stronger, (this would leave the advent with the drone swarm, doing this would emphasize more importance on fighters, while at same time speeding up multiplayer games.)
The capital carrier of course will carry a squadron or two extra making the carrier fill the carrier roll, seriously who ever heard of a swarm of mini carriers? (This is mostly personal preference as most movies and books, the carriers are the biggest and sometimes most important in a fleet) This will make it so when faced between building your support carrier or your cap ship you will be more inclined to build a cap ship.
The mod in detail
The cap ships will only use 25 instead of 50 support. This will encourage more capital ships in multiplayer, hardly anyone ever maxes out there cap limit cause most find it more economical to build frigates and cruisers. Yes an equal cap of certain frigates vs same cap of capital ships is balanced. Yes I know this can be argued but thats not what this is about. I want it so the capital ships will win. You may say but thats stupid, its not really, you already pay way more for a capital ship and they take more time to build, plus your limited to how many you can build.
I want to lower the number of squadrons the support carriers carry, but make all fighters for Vasari and TEC quite a bit stronger.
Increase rate of fire
Increasse hull strength or even add shields
Same build time though.
Strengthen firepower slightly.
TEC squadron size change to 12
Vasari may stay the same sqaud size, or may increase it to 6.
Advent squad size may change to 12.
I may shorten build time on Advent depending on how my balance of fighters plays in game.
Advent will stay how they are otehrwise, they use drones to swarm the enemy I would like to emphasize that. So the Advent support carrier will still carry same amount of squads. The support carriers for all races however will be more expensive. I want to emphasize the strength and importance of fighters, but I don't want to overpower them.Capital ships by the same token will still carry the same amount of squads, except for the carrier.
The carrier will be modified to carry more fighters initially, 3 squads with a total of 6 maybe 7 for vasari and TEC. The advent carrier however will start with 6 sqauds (weaker squads strength in numbers) with the total numbering around 10 or 11. The carrier will cost 30 support instead of the 25 for the rest of the capital ships. Now you might argue a few points:
TEC or Vasari will be massively outnumbered, you have to realize their fighters will be stronger, and have a higher rate of fire, and have a little bit more firepower. (This is to represent real people fighting against "Drones") and the advent will not be in too much trouble cause they have the numbers.
Second point, "Wouldn't carriers be overpowered?" Thats kinda the point, their carriers, they are supposed to be the backbone of a fleet. You want to counter the carrier? Either build your own, or of course outnumber it with flak frigates or something along those lines. Yes it may get concentrated fire, but after its destroyed the fighters it deployed are still flying around until they are destroyed. Kinda of like a cap ship with a lingering presence.
Now since all the capital ships besides carriers carry the the same amount of fighters, one might say thats not very fair for advent whos fighters didn't get strengthened. However thats why the advents support carriers will still carry three squads.
"Couldn't this lead to advent building a swarm of support carriers and own his opponent towards end game?" First there are flak frigates, second, support carriers are more expensive and will actually use about 25 unit cap for advent probably around 21 or 22 for vasari and TEC. This will help alleviate support carrier spamming somewhat, why build support carrier when you can build a capital ship for almost same cap? Then make up for any lack with flak frigates.
This mod should be simple to empliment as I am just changing a few things in entity files, and have already done so somewhat.
The final goal of this mod is too
a ) emphasize capital ships
B ) emphasize fighters, make it so few fighters more feared
C ) Make carriers the actual backbone of a fleet.
