thats just the thing, youd have to make the new race, along with all ship models, AI behavior, structures and such. and then create extra diplomacy features, starbases and mines, and whatever else int he third expansion, and then once you ahve all this stuff, you will ahve to just let it sit ont he back burner waiting for all three expansions to come out, and then once its unvieled, you would have to only allow certian little pieces of this now totally completed thing to its customers who bought only one or two of the expansions...you do realize its mroe then just entrenchment coming out right?
Of course ALL this if assuming the devs have managed to have more then enough employees and resources devoted to a project which a portion of thier own customer base will never see. Then this means they need a whole seperate team to create this new race as said above WHILE the expansions are being developed, if they dont do this it means they will need to create this player races sometime after at least the second expansion, including the added starbases and what have you. That means more time waiting, more time and resources taken away from patches and other development, that means producing a product that is exclusive to only a few people who bought the addons, which means that the devs lose time and money.
And of course it should also make you a bit angry, because it would have ment that while we where all waiting for a patch, or an expansion that seems to take ages to copmplete, the devs had moved resources over to instead work on the new player race starbases which some of us may never see.
This is of course, assuming this new race will still be a player race...the above of what I said therefore states that logically, it will not be.
Edit: Just to be clear, I really do enjoy this game and support the company and I am going to be buying the expansions in as much time as I am allowed to do so as well as being in full support of the mini expansion idea, impluse is another matter but I digress, my posts are simply here to to put forward the argument and assumption regarding the 4th race that is so eagerly awaited in the future. I am not critisising Stardock or Ironclad Games simply because they have not really done anything regarding this to be critical. Only time well tell, in the meantime, regard these posts simply as discussion appitizers and the ravings of a man that enjoys more then a few late night whiskey and rum nightcaps.
