dunno if nexus would lend itself enough to sins, nexus detail was all in its
ship customisation.... not its ship types
I, for one, always wanted to be the guy calling the shots, building the fleets up, then giving them their orders and watching them slice through the enemy. I want to be safe back in HQ, not on the bridge of that cruiser about to go up in flames.
And for that there would need to be some liberties taken with ships. For example, there could be a variant of the Colossus with the fort shield, and one with massive hangar bays. Same with missile destroyers, tactical destroyers (done with abilities), different types of cruisers, strike ones with fighters/bombers, close range ones, anti-strike ones. Who doesn't want a Balthazar-class battleship with Crisis Energy Torpedoes and Nova Plasma Guns? A freaking broadside of plasma after your Crisis Torps just nailed his shields to crap would be awesome.
The biggest problem I currently see is shields/hull damage. In Nexus, hull-damaging weapons can't hurt shields, and shield-damaging weps can't hurt hulls. As far as I know, Sins doesn't see a difference between shield damage and hull damage. And the whole shields take time to regenerate thing as well in Nexus as well.
For the IP drives, is it possible to have phase jumps cause effects on ships? So jumping (engaging IP drive) would drop your shields as well?
For wormholes and star travel, there was a guy on these forums who had wormholes connected across star systems so that would definitely work for custom maps.
However, the overall Nexus universe is simply awesome. The story, the environments, the epic-ness of it all. (Insert Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy entry on space). Really, Nexus is the only thing that feels as epic to me as Sins does, simply because of the scale. Even though you are the deciding factor in Nexus, you are fighting in asteroid fields the size of planets, and all throughout your ships are just insignificant compared to the size of the solar system they are trying to capture. I want that feeling again. Of even though you are the One Who Decides, compared to everything you are nothing.
And yes, the Nexus 2 tech demo was awesome. I hope it seriously becomes more than just a tech demo.
