If anyone else has read David Weber's Honorverse series, then perhaps you will know what I am talking about. Unless its just me.
I have always enjoyed David Weber's space based fiction, for many reasons, particularity the 'hard' science fiction aspects, or how it really is real. That struck me about this game as well. But looking at both, I am struck by the similarities between the game and his books. Not in story, or theme, but in game play. In Sins, battles do not have to be terribly decisive. If two fleets meet and one is superior, the other fleet can generally escape without to much damage. The same is a constant in Weber's novels. The weaker fleet can always run. In Sins, there are lanes of traffic between systems, and battles take place in a limiter, relatively, volume around a celestial object. In Weber's books, travel is not limited to lanes, but there are faster 'highways' that exist, and the battles are limited to volumes around star systems. The theaters of battle are bigger in his books, but that is minor.
In fact, there are two main differences, and one is because of scale, as mentioned above. First, ships cannot hide from one another. And two, there is no light speed limit in detections and stuff.
Anyone else who has read the books or is intrigued, respond. This is meant as a light discussion, perhaps with ideas that we would like to see.
Developers and other official people, I am curious if anyone has ever read these books. Because the flavor of both seems to be quite similar.
