Some questions...

Ok I posted a thread about this in the General board and they told me to look here...so...
How do you add in your own portraits/pics or whatever you want to call them? Oh, and is it possible to rename a faction to whatever you want? I'm not that good at modding so help me out here...

EDIT: Does anyone take...uh, "Ship Making" (is that right?...Yeah, let's go with that) requests? If you do, let me know...

Oh, and is it possible to rename a faction to whatever you want?

Modeling an entire ship is not trivial.

Open them. Change things.

Hmm... probably what they tell you when your in med school to become a surgeon too...

If you can't figure it out from there you have no business modding. There has to be some allowance for figuring how to do things out yourself or you'll never learn how to do it properly.

i can't open the files, they're "unknown", that's what I'm talking about. I get nowhere from opening them.

Those files will still be unknown, but you just have to tell it to open with Wordpad or Notepad, or some other text editor (I personally use Wordpad).

HOW TO MOD IN ONE EASY STEP:

Step 1:
-At the top of this page, locate the "downloads" button and click it.
-When you get to the other side of the link, scroll down the page till you see "Forge Tools Beta". Download this.
-Download the "Modding Documentation". This has the instructions to do what you are wanting to do concerning renaming/reworking a faction. It is VERY self explanatory...
-Download the "Reference Data for v1.04". These are the files you can mod, but in text form instead of binary. You open them in notepad (or wordpad) and edit the values in them as demonstrated in the "Modding Documentation".

-READ. All of it. Yes... you need to read it all.
-Now, MOD something. Start the game and marvel at your ability.

-After you have done this, If you need help with a SPECIFIC item, ask the Mod forum that SPECIFIC question. This will save you MUCH grief and MUCH sarcasm.

And yes... I know. It's more than one step. But face the reality you don't get to the store, much less the other side of the kitchen with one step.
