So I just sat and reasoned about whether some people have ever brought up the question about patches being good or bad, of course in relation to SoaSE. The thing that first came to my mind was that everybody seems to be very fond of the whole patch thing because there were and still are some both minor and major technical issues in the game. These range from small graphical glitches to bigger flaws like freeze-ups and such. Not that it bothers the overall gamer who has a decent rig, but some people with even a little less than optimal, not recommended, but optimal rigs, get some of these probs. I have experienced minor freeze-ups on my optimal rig, but I also tried to play on my friend's, younger brother's, com and after a while it just froze, no clue as to why it happened, but something was wrong and I have never experienced a crash like that, but there it was. Lucky it only took one reboot to get the thing going again, but still, these problems should be avoided if possible. But to stay on track the whole point of this post was to bring up the question about pro and cons about patches. At first we have some of the pros like bug fixing etc. which in my "professional opinion" agree entirely with. It does not take a very long time to download if you got a good connection and most people do these days, even though the standards keep moving and boundaries are broken... But never mind the clichees.
Now the reason to why I posted this was that it seems everytime a patch is made, replays are don't seem to be able to follow, they can not keep up. Now I am not one of those guys who fancy to sit down and watch long replays, but suppose you are. If you want to show of to some friends that you killed of a humungous fleet, a fleet so incredibly large in numbers like no one has ever seen before and you have saved it all for your own convenience and maybe for future reference... Does it mean you have to stay in the stone age with a freaking 1.0 version of the game while everyone is having fun on freaking ICO? Yeah sure there is Hamachi and one always gets the greatest satisfaction of showing off to one's closest friend, but what about other players who are as good as you to show you got some skill? Well too bad because a new patch was released and all your old replays does not function anymore... SupCom succeded and as far as I know all other games that i've been playing, RTS of course, could show replays from older versions of the respective game. What if it had been saved games? Sorry, due to our new patch you can not play any saved games from older versions prior to this new verion, not THAT would have been a problem would it not? Again this really does not bother me even though I might sound like this, but isn't the world about keeping the debate going? Or do we just have to live in peace and harmony
Well if you got any comments to this post please don't hesitate to reply. Oh and one other thing, this game is really rock solid except i've had problems playing with my friend online over Hamachi, so my past comment about one being able to play with a friend on a closed network over Hamachi so one would not have to update the game, well that was a TECHNICAL PROBLEM... But actually Supcom and SINS got one thing in comment, they both gave me some pretty hard times with multiplayer gaming, fortunately this is not what I am playing most of the time, but it is still nice to know if it works and trust me, if Supcom worked properly online with no nil ping every time one joined a custom game, I would be online more often...
I guess that is all signing off...
