Gehh...I hate ports and all associated with..!!

Okay so I'm a total n00b when it comes to ports and DNS UDP..TCIP ...http and all that goodness. I just want to play LAN with a friend in the next room..THough I've spent the better 4 hours trying to do that...Were both firewalled, though I have Windows XP (Sygate personal firewall), and my friend has a Vista comp with (PC-CILLIN firewall)...He also runs a wireless linkup to a wireless receiver which is hooked to a router which is then ran to a gateway which then runs to the cable jack and out the door..lol. We both have unblocked eachother allowing us to receive packets and stuff...But from what I've read it's the whole 6112 Port deal, which I have no clue whatsoever to deal with..And I don't feel comfortable digging around in my router defaults...WHICH btw I cannot login to, even as going far as typing http://192.168.1.1 to log into via http, it asks for a login name and password....Which I have no clue b/c I've never done it before...So I look up how to do that, supposedly it's (Admin) and (1234, or password) for all that...But it just gives me a 411 error!!! I've tried hooking us both up via Hamachi personal networker, (Made a room with password, secured both of our temp IP addresses and entered them into the connect box in the game with port 6112). But apparently if you don't have an MIT degree in porting logistics then it's a LAN no go for you...Or might I be just over-reacting...Hmm >.> .

Any suggestions as I would really like to LAN with this...And thus far I've done all I can ..I even attempted to try to do Monks step-by-step...but alas If I couldn't log into my darned Router then I stopped at step 2...lol

If you are both plugged into the SAME router then you won't have to do anything with the router, just configure your PC's properly.

If you're NOT on the same router, then yes you will need to follow the steps in my guide (not just attempt them as a "last resort"

) to get things working. If you didn't change the password on your router from the factory default, google your rotuer make/model default login and you should be good to go. (btw. depending what make/model of router you have the WEB-login address will be different which is why my guide has you checking for your "gateway" address.

)

By the way, an MIT degree is certainly not necessary, I think most of us learn to read in grade-school? hehe

Anyway, As my guide states......I have and continue to talk people through the more convoluted network setups some people insist on creating for themselves via my TS server (*sigh* KISS-principle is so often forgotten

) and I will be available later tonight to do the same for you. Just read the darn thing first or I will be annoyed that I'll be repeating myself.

Anyhow!

Your modem firmware IP should be 192.168.2.1

Your access login name and password (thats what it's called) you can call the tech support for your ISP and ask them to reset the password and give you your user ID. They won't probably be able to access what it was before (unless it's in the account notes somewhere) but resets are on the fly. If you need to have it reset to get it, be sure to make sure the tech helps you reprogram your firmware (modem software) with the new passwords or you're in trouble the first time you reset your modem or lose power.

What kind of modem/connection are you on? Router type? Antivirus software? If in doubt look for a sticker underneath or on the sides for the modem type.

I was a senior tech at a internet ISP, more detail you give me the better I might be able to give back... opening the ports is simple enough once you've got your firmware in control.
