No. My complaint is about the AI.If you play unlocked then for whatever reason the AI (those that have come in contact with the human player) will ignore other AI players and basically send all forces after the humanoid player. Does that make sense to you? This screenshot is from so early in the game (check the fleet ship icons) that it's fairly obvious one AI left his home systems basically defenseless to fly all the way across the system to assault the human player. The other two were at least my neighbors.
Which AI are you talking about? out of the AIs attacking, the orange one is the furthest away and it's still only 3 jumps away.
Really it's not that hard to get favor with one or more of the AIs, I've found that early on the missions are pretty much just giving resources and you can often get 60% favor with one of the AIs just from giving it resources when it asks. Once the AIs ask you to attack someone it's usually time to start invading anyway.
I usually try and pick which AI I want on my side at the start and do the missions for that one until I get an alliance, for example in this map I would have done the missions for pink because it's furthest away and I've got a fairly good attack route to the other 3.
Once you get the alliance the game is practically won, half the AI fleets will be busy attacking your ally, you can constantly send pirates their way if that isn't enough (the AI doesn't deal with pirates nearly as well as a human would). Only on massive FFAs with 7+ AIs do I find I need more than one ally.
