Minefields would be awesome. They could fill the role on which the phase jump inhibitors fail

I do feel that there needs to be more ships...and if that means another class, I guess I'm down with that.

I've always been in love with BFG, and how you can have a basic model, but have minor tweaks to make it perform vastly different roles.

Sounds like a good idea, I welcome it alot. It will add to the vaerity of ships in the game and the mines would be a nice defensive option to have.

If 'destroyers' were to fit in anywhere, it should be between cruisers and capital ships, IMO.

Technically, The Kol is the First TEC warship in hundreds of years.

I think there's a need for a destroyer class, between cruiser and capital. I'd expect that in an expansion pack.

Well between Capital ship and Cruiser I can understand. Maybe requires Capital Ship factory? Could have some interesting ships, like a Siege Destroyer that can bomb planets, but is mostly used to destroy buildings. Also a new type of carrier with 2 squadrons, and maybe a gun (Possibly AA) or special support ability.

Mine structure would be cool. You build it at a planet and it tosses mines in a wide area, enemy ships traveling through it trigger mines :/

Tecnically, today's frigates are usually used as either Anti-submarine vessels, or anti-fighter missile platforms. In the United States Navy they range from the 138 meter, 4,100 ton Oliver Perry class to the new 115 meter, 2500 ton Freedom Class.

Modern Destroyers are multi-mission (Anti-Sub, Anti-Aircraft, Anti-surface warfare( Surface combatants. The US Arleigh Burke Class is 154 meters and weighs 9200 tons while the new Zumwalt Class will be 183 meters and weigh in at 14,064 tons.

A modern Cruiser by contrast, the US Ticonderoga Class is 173 meters and weighs only 9,500 tons.

Back in the seventies when the US feared a "cruiser gap" with the russians they solved the problem by reclassifing a bunch of frigates as cruisers.

The point I want to make is that ship classifications aren't set in stone for either size or function. Back during the age of sail, frigates were the most powerful warships in service. Cruiser was origanly a purpose or mission for a craft rather than an actual type of vessel.

If they want to add destroyers in, i'm all for it. More is definetly better in my book.

I was actually envisioning that the mine layers would lay thin narrow belts of mines. 1 mine layer would lay a strip of mines several mines wide and deep with maybe a length of 25-30 mines from front to end.

There would be several upgrades of mines

-Standard: Hit it and it goes boom
-Magnetic: Slowly moves towards the ship, possible causing a small chain reaction of mines exploding
-Ion Mines: They explode and the ships functions and abilites are disabled for a set amount of time
-Radiation Mines: Damage over time to ships in the area

Mines would have to be balanced to prevent spamming, maybe have them worked into the tactical slots of a system or neighboring star sytems that are uncolonizable

Just some ideas, I know all are not great ideas but someone else may build upon it or have a better idea

They should have a customizable ship feature, like galactic civ. They could give you a few basic hull classes, frigate destroyer, cruiser, etc. and go from there.
