The hosting warning message comes up a lot even for many people who can host (I've been getting it since 1.02 and can host fine and so do a few of the people I know), this type of thing can reduce the amount of players playing online and amount of games, because many players might think they cannot host after this warning and seeing no one joining (not many people join instantly or even within the first minute) and they don't see many games (due to many people thinking they cannot host). yes people can just ask others to test the hosting capabilities with them, but I don't think that always occurs.

There should be a message to help people who have the issue, but it should somehow be reworded, not to make people who can host believe they can't or somehow the detection has to be changed.

I agree. That message needs to be fixed and be more specific (i.e. We have deteched that your port is blocked). Or something.

But for lots of people too, they genuinely can't host. Most people who play online games are not all proficient using routers, or networks. Myself, I'm behind a LAN that I can't alter in any way because I get my internet from a university. The reason people take all this MP stuff for granted is that other RTS game companies (rightly) configure their games so that network code will interface with networks without much user input. It has its drawbacks, as it is technically less safe for a computer, but I think the benefit of an ease of use system clearly outweighs that risk.

I know it's only been a week, but I have stopped playing online, and most likely won't return until I get home to my DSL (if I'm still interested in SOASE--to be honest it has to be a heck of a game to capture my interest for a semester without MP) or except for scheduled games. As I can't host, and the only people in the lobby are people who hope they can catch someone to host a game (in other words people like me) it's pointless to go online "randomly" and try to play.
