to anyone that has started modding this game

im a big fan of liek any space game or genre, starwars ,battlestar galactica , star trek, gundam, wing commander, that kind of stuff

now im not a heavy modder , in fact ive never modded somethign in my life , but i would like to learn how to and i see that this game comes with a forge, now im getting the game 2mowow for sure, im leaving school early and such(benefit of having a car), and i would liek to use this game as a stepping stone on learnign how to mod games, now heres the big question , is learning how to mod in this game easy or is it a task that should be left to well trained/experienced ppl in this field?

ps: this is how the alphabet would look like if q and r was missing

Well, modding for any game can be hard. Some are just harder than others. For SoaSe, modding shouldnt be too difficult compared to other games. Most things are in text files. The more difficult parts I would imagine would be creating 3D models and textures.

It might be somewhat difficult, but all it takes is practice and getting to know how the modding works. Anyone can do it if they spend a bit of time.

Like anything you get out of it what you put into it and modding is an art form in itself. In the case of Sins, the developers have gone out of their way to make the gmae open to us modders and there is much we can do. However like the devs we must learn what is possible and what is functional. So it will take some time for high quality big projects to be developed. Regardless I suspect there will be some simple data mods posted within a few days. If you (or anyone) is interested in learning to mod there are some resources the devs have made available as well as some the testes have developed as well. I suggest doing all the reading possible then trying to make your own simple ones to get your feet wet so to speak. You should also feel free to look into joining some of the major projects that have been announced already. There is a consolidated list thread (pinned) in the mods section.

Comming from a modding background and studying 3D Animation and Games Development I have to say it depends on the game and what you are trying to achive. If you want to make your own ships you are going to need a 3d package of some sort, like Maya or 3ds Max.

If you are new to modeling I would say you go to a website like - 3dkingdom.org (If thats still up) or Highend3d.com ect.

There are alot of vary good tute's to get you started on 3d.

Well, finding tutorials is easy. Just a simple google search will turn up many. However for a first timer with no experience, the tutorials are of great help. You can teach yourself lots by just practicing.

I did that with 3ds max and going to start with maya here pretty soon.

Meh, I started using maya as my first program, and tried to use 3dmax a few months later; nearly impossible to switch. Yet strangely I'm having no trouble learning Zbrush.

Yeah, that is the odd thing about 3D design programs. One you will get really well, while another you cant even use it. Me personally I found 3ds max to be very easy, while blender (after hearing about so many recommendations) is horrible unintuitive for me.
