Sins on XP Pro 64x ?

Just curious as to whether Sins will be supported on windows XP professional 64 bit edition. Since this is my operating system I'm obviously pretty concerned about this. Oh, and hi everybody! Can't wait for this thing to be released.

you should try doing a little research on the forum faq section. will tell you a bit about what type of ops.software sins will be able to run on.

I wouldn't trust 64 bit XP to run word, much less a game

Driver support for that OS has, traditionally, been horrid, and I don't believe MS has used its "bigger hammer" vista approach to fix that. (In order to get a driver "signed" for Vista you have to have a working copy of it for both 32 and 64 bit... but I don't think they force XP compatibility for 64 bit OS's...)

SoaSE runs fine on my Vista x64, I know thats not what you asked but it should be of interest to you as a good sign.

Yep it works fine on Vista 64bit, so i would expect it to run on XP 64bit as well

Among the 13 computer systems (most are servers ) in my home office are 2 identical gaming computers. Their OS is XP Pro x64. Nothing else is ever done on these machines except for gaming. They work 100% of the time. My teenage sons run Vista (32-bit for legacy stuff) on their gaming computers which have identical hardware to that in my gaming rigs. My XP Pro x64 consistently out-performs my sons machines, period.


XP Pro x64 is currently the best choice for any gamer!

Just so you know, I'm the director of operations for two IT firms. They trust me, you might as well too!

It would be so much easier if you two just shared the same dungeon. Can take turns capturing each other without wasting precious time on things like planning!

Hehe, I'm glad you got 64 bit XP to work. Last I heard, the driver support for it sucked... maybe MS finally changed that

Well, 64-bit support is mandatory to be in the Games for Windows program.

1. Unless I'm mistaken Yarlen just said 3? posts up that "yes it will work" and he's a reliable source.

2. I don't know how little you've been using XP x64 but I've had it on both of my gaming rigs for over 2 years now and have installed and sucessfully (with not one single crash in those 2 years) played every single PC game released during that 2yr span! XP Pro x64 is FAR more stable and gives FAR better performance than either the 32-bit or 64-bit versions of Vista.

I would know, since of the 13 machines I have in my office, 6 of them have identical hardware just different OS's. The OS's differ from XP Pro 32-bit/64-bit to Vista 32-bit/64-bit. I test all games on these gaming rigs as soon as I can get my hands on them (my sons keep pushing untill I do ) They want the best gaming experience I can offer them.

It may be giving better support now, running XP built equipment, but once we step up to Vista level hardware, (and if you properly tweak Vista), performance gets a whole lot closer. Vista uses more resources to run, but it's also much better at managing resources. So as we stretch our legs into greater amounts of horsepower, we'll see a pretty drastic change.
Course, I suppose it's hard to say, if you could get drivers for DOS, you could never find a more stable or fast OS.

Well I just upgraded my PC a few days ago and the only copy of XP I had around was the 64x. I had heard all the scary rumors so I just wanted to be sure. However, I too have installed all my old games and everything is working great. So no worries. Thanks for the help guys.

Ooo...another DOS-ie, didn't think there were many of us left anymore.... hehe We're getting too old, the new generation (my sons) won't even remember what a CLI is in 20 years...haha!

Anyway, I agree. Just like XP (grew into its "legs" ) So will Vista! Just a matter of time.

this is what my computer reads:

System:
microsoft windows XP
version 2002
service pack2

Registered to:
me

Computer:
AMD Athlon(tm) 64processor
3200+

does this mean that my computer is 64bit? with pysical adress extension, 2.21GHz, 1.00GB of RAM.

i'm assuming that the 64processor is the 64bit part of my computer right?

Pretty much all processors available now are 64 bit, however unless you have a 64 bit version of windows as well, they run in 32 bit mode. You probably have 32 bit windows, since it doesn't say 64 specifically there.
