OMG awesome!

I really like the additional artistry, t'is very, very cool.
however, I do note with mild dissapointment the lack of a lot of new material

hrm...
new question: what guides your procession along the fleet points research tree? same way that military/civ research stations stop you from going all the way to the top too quickly...?

A very nice and extremely clear design decision.

I would like to see some subtle race oriented graphics embedded in the background boxes however. I think such a thing would add a touch of class and refinement to the overall feel.

its cool that the game now supports arrows that go from top to bottom, so we can branch of in that direction, too.
In the advent research screen we have seen that is possible to have requirements set in a different 'box' and that the arrow extends over the border. The 90° turn for the current research screen with fancy background (that looks very good btw is a cool move
Although it still seems that the requirement arrows only span two tiers. (or there are simply no techs with a lager span between individual techs ^^
I hope larger ones spanning three tiers or more will be availiable in the final release aswell

It is an aesthetic issue to be sure. The bottom up would be more inherently logical however. This is especially so given the shortness of each branch. It is not like this is GC or something similar but it works nonetheless.

considering the structure of many english phrases, the concept of 'building up' is pretty ingrained in many peoples' minds. Also, most things that are built are buildings and the like, which are built from top to bottom. However, I don't accept any of these as valid answers for what is most likely a case of inertia. Imagine how odd it would feel if galciv's tech tree was flipped to being top/bottom. I think that the left/right dynamic is perfectly understandable to people used to reading things in english and is stylistically appealing while categorizing the tech lines cleanly. (I think very nice sums this opinion up well, but some enjoy detail)

Maybe the TEC could spraypaint some ads onto the sides of the missiles. That way you can kill the alien scum and the survivors will be more inclined to buy your products. They are the trader race after all...

wow... anyone else notice the gradient bar in the center? I'm assuming the color change denotes the number of research stations made. Looks like bright color is available tech tiers while darker gradients on the right show you don't have the research stations to open that up. Freakin sweet.

Also, nice touch up in the corner of the empire bar.

fins provide leverage for the invisible maneuvering thrusters, duh. But why not use thrust vectoring?

Nonetheless, in space some sort of protrusion from the missile body would still probably be desirable for maneuvering thrusters, to generate additional leverage from minimal thrust. Less thrust needed = less fuel carried = more room for explosive warheads = better bang for your buck. Thats the bottom line.

Yeah, but I was refering to in a planet's atmosphere. It really doesn't take great accuracy to hit a ball of iron 12 thousand kilometres wide.

And there is such as thing as radiation, though admitedly you wouldn't be able to do much damage through radiated heat alone.

Although you can't tell it from the screenshot, many of the techs on the research trees have more than 1 level. It's just that rather than display the tech twice, the InfoCard tells you how many levels a tech's got to research. It makes the tree look pretty small, but after we condensed down the GC2 trees to eliminate Laser 1-5, etc. into one object, that tree got condensed too.

You dont need any leverage in 0 gravity... You could blow on the missile and cause it to change direction.

Vasari: "Why are the maneuvering thrusters on your warheads attached to the end of poles?"

TEC: "For leverage foo!"
